Why We Started Fotohi Carpet Gallery, and Why We Still Do This The Same Way
For over 30 years, Fotohi Carpet Gallery has been a trusted name for rugs in Singapore.
But beyond the years, what truly defines us is how and why we do what we do.
We’d like to share a little about our story, because when you choose a rug, you’re also choosing the people behind it.
How Fotohi Carpet Gallery Started

Fotohi Carpet Gallery was founded in 1994 by Reza Fotohi, with a simple aim: to help people beautify their homes, floors, and spaces with quality carpets. From the very beginning, the goal was never to rush sales or follow fleeting trends. It was to provide pieces that bring life, colour, and story into a home.
Over the years, Reza has seen this vision come alive through our returning customers. People trust us not just because of the carpets we carry, but because of the care, explanation, and authenticity we bring. Whether it’s oriental Persian pieces, vibrant tribal rugs, or modern machine-made designs, each rug finds a home where it’s appreciated and enjoyed.
Our Approach and Decisions

Along the way, we made choices that reflect what matters most to us:
-
Quality and story over quantity; each rug is selected carefully to enhance a space and last for years
-
Sharing knowledge; we love explaining knots, patterns, and care tips so our customers feel confident in their purchase
-
Celebrating tradition without fuss; handmade or machine-made, every rug carries a story and a purpose
These choices guide everything we do, from sourcing to cleaning to arranging our gallery, and have been consistent through our journey from early stores at Paragon, to over 20 years at Tanjong Katong Complex, and now at Guthrie Building.
Beyond rugs, our carefully curated tablecloths, cushion covers, and other crafted goods add artistry and charm to homes in a way that feels natural, not forced.
Ramadan Bazaars and Night Auctions

One of the highlights of the year for us has always been our Ramadan bazaars and night auctions. Over the years, we’ve hosted these events where rugs are not just displayed, but celebrated.
We usually meet quite a big number of our regular customers during this period, and we’re very happy to see them, while also welcoming new faces who are discovering our gallery for the first time.
These evenings are special; seeing the excitement of people browsing, learning about the pieces, and even engaging in a little friendly bargaining. It’s a time when the gallery truly feels alive, and we love every moment of it.
Why We Still Do It the Same Way
Years later, our philosophy remains unchanged. We focus on the experience and the stories behind the rugs, rather than the pace of sales.
The joy is in the little moments:
-
Seeing someone recognize the subtle difference in knot density
-
Watching the delight as a customer comes to a decision on the rug choice (and maybe enjoys a little bargaining!)
-
Helping people understand how to care for a rug confidently, without stress
These experiences remind us why our approach works, and why our original aim continues to be fulfilled.
Moving Forward
Our goal is to continue serving the community and anyone who appreciates beautiful rugs. Through our socials and future content, we share stories, histories, and insights to help more people see that rugs are more than floor coverings; they are living pieces of art with rich stories to tell.
When you visit Fotohi Carpet Gallery, you step into a space where rugs are appreciated, explained, and respected. We promise honest guidance, careful selection, and time to help you experience each piece fully, so it can enhance your home and your life in a way that feels personal and meaningful.
