This Persian Mazlaghan carpet, handwoven in northwest Persia, reflects the village’s distinctive weaving tradition, where women often crafted these pieces during their leisure time. Typically featuring a familiar design with subtle variations across the field, Mazlaghan rugs are known for their tribal character and charm.
This particular piece stands out as one of the finer Mazlaghan carpets, woven about 50 years ago. Made of wool on a cotton foundation, it displays a natural sheen from both the high-quality wool and occasional sun exposure, enhancing its beauty over time. The colours are derived from vegetable dyes, a hallmark of village and tribal weaving, where artisans often relied on locally produced natural materials rather than chemical threads.
Measuring a versatile size, it would look especially striking in living rooms, where its floral-like patterns and warm tones can be admired fully. Depending on weaving hours, such carpets could take anywhere from three months to a year to complete, with each knot reflecting the skill and patience of the women who created them.
