Woven in the village of Enjelas in the Hamadan region of western Persia, this finely crafted carpet is centred by a medallion set against an all-over Herati (mahi) pattern, one of the most enduring designs in Persian weaving.
What makes this piece particularly special is its fine weave. At around 500 knots per square inch, it is remarkably fine for a village carpet, where around 250 knots per square inch is more typical. This level of fineness is more commonly associated as the average knots with city and workshop rugs. Over 60 years old and remarkably well preserved, the carpet has retained its fine detail and soft handle.
A thoughtful piece for those who appreciate the character and precision of traditional village weaving.
